Our Tricks of the Trade column is written by our readers, and most of the entries come from “regular guys.” Occasionally we receive a trick from someone more recognizable, and this month our video trick comes from north of the border, courtesy of Mag Ruffman, aka “toolgirl.” Mag has written articles for us in previous issues, and has hosted, created and produced two “how to” television shows,”A Repair to Remember” and “Anything I Can Do.” She also has two books to her credit, “How Hard Can It Be?” and “We’re All In This Together,” and numerous videos from her web site toolgirl.com. “We’re All In This Together”is the only book to achieve best-seller status based on sales from a chain of Canadian tire stores.

The video below is a great method for quickly transferring an image from your computer onto a piece of wood. Mag uses it as a finishing technique in the video, but it is also a great way to transfer a pattern of a carving or a shape. Be sure to visit her web site, toolgirl.com, and her YouTube channel for more entertaining and informative videos on tools, techniques and other topics.
