Earlier this morning, I added the SketchUp models of projects in the February issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine to our 3d Warehouse collection. We do this every issue, and no other woodworking magazine makes their projects available (for free) in this format. After I added Michael Fortune’s three legged table (the cover project), and two other models I realized that the collection was close to containing two hundred models. It seemed like a good idea to hit a nice round number by the end of the year, so I searched through my hard drive and found three additional models; two bookcases I designed and Frank Klausz’s Toolbox from the August 2006 issue.

If you visit the collection, the easy way to find the newest additions is to click on “sort by date”. The really easy way is to subscribe to the collection, if you do you’ll be notified when models are added. You can download any of the models for viewing on you own computer, and if you want to start with a magazine project and modify the design to suit yourself, you’re most of the way there. If you don’t have SketchUp installed on your machine, I encourage you to give it a try. If you want to learn how to use SketchUp, we have videos and a digital book in our store to get you going. One other option for sorting the collection is “by popularity” to see which models have been viewed and downloaded the most. And here’s where we’ve hit another milestone. Thanks to our readers, and being mentioned on the Official Google SketchUp blog not once, but twice, our collection has been viewed more times than we ever imagined. The top six models have been viewed more three hundred thousand times each for a combined total of more than two million views. And all of that for free.

If you haven’t checked this feature out, click here to see what you’ve been missing. Two of the new models are embedded at the end of this blog post.
