Whether your shop is spacious or petite, you can't beat the convenience of having your equipment mobile. The new Universal Mobile Base Hardware, $60, will help you get rolling. Customizing the base for any tool is simple. It has a high load rating and rolls like dream. If you can cut a piece of 3/4-in. plywood and drill holes, you can size the mobile base. Cut the plywood 1/2 in. larger, in both directions, than the tool you're mobilizing. Drill holes for the mounting bolts (included with the base) and you're home free. The Universal Mobile Base Hardware will handle machines as small as 12 x 12 in., as large as 37 x 37 in., or any size in between. With its maximum load rating, this mobile base can handle most tools. For the base to handle the load and roll easily, however, the tool must rest squarely on the steel corners. Two foot-operated pedals raise and lower the machine. Swivel casters take over after the machine is lifted. The base also has leveling screws to accommodate a less-than-perfect floor.
