As we start the new year, I hope this blog finds you, your friends, and your families well. Each year, the rolling of the calendar is an exciting time for most people. It’s a new beginning. A time to make new resolutions for this next year and to look forward to what the year has in store.

As always, it’s been a busy year this year here at Popular Woodworking. For almost the entire year, we’ve been working on a new shop for PopWood. It’s been a long process, but I am sitting here, in the shop working on a project and writing this letter to you. Now, the shop’s not fully done…But are they ever really?

Reflecting back on this year, we are fully a year into our digital version of ShopNotes magazine, a product produced by the Woodsmith Magazine staff as well as the editors of Popular Woodworking. It’s been exciting to revive this much-loved title and produce it once again. Many people have asked about getting a printed version instead of a digital one. While it doesn’t (yet) make sense to offer it quarterly, we are offering an end-of-year printed issue containing all four issues we produced this year.

So, what’s coming up in this new year? Well, we have some things in the works. First, you’ll find more projects coming from our Popular Woodworking shop, both online and in the magazine. Also, keep your eyes out for additional video offerings through PopWood+ as well as new Online courses brought to you by some of the best instructors in woodworking. And finally, and maybe the most exciting of all, is our plan to re-launch the Woodworking In America Conference. This conference was put on for several years by the Popular Woodworking staff, and we’re planning to once again host this conference in 2024, in collaboration with our coworkers at Woodsmith and Fine Woodworking. Keep an eye on your email for information about WIA 2024.

So here’s to looking forward to this new year. I hope this year finds you in your shop, building things that excite you. As always, please send me any feedback, comments, or questions that you have, as I love talking shop.
