ShakerBookcase

I’m (theoretically) off work from now through January (I already know I’ll be popping into the shop a few times over the holiday, though, and I’ve a massive pile of editing to get through). But just in case I consume too much eggnog in the coming weeks and forget, here’s my holiday gift: a PDF collection of the articles on the three Shaker-inspired pieces I’ve built for my living room.

Yeah, it’s a bit self-aggrandizing, but darn it, I like this bookcase, coffee table and entertainment center. I live with them every day, and they’ve held up well to the challenge of insane cats and visiting children, and me spilling things on them and overloading them with books, videos and the like. (To my eye, they look better now for the wear; I have an issue with “show pieces” – if it’s not meant to be used, why bother!)

Anyway, I hope you have a very merry holiday season, and best wishes for safe and happy woodworking in 2015. And thanks for reading Popular Woodworking!

    Dear Megan –

Thank You! The Shaker Living Room Suite Plans are greatly appreciated.

Now, please allow a grumpy old woodworker take you to task for failing to use push blocks during the crown molding operation you have illustrated in the photograph located in the top right-hand photo of page 50. A board can shatter when you least expect it.

Just guessing, but I would think a writer might have an easier time with all of your fingers.

Just call me a caring reader.

    Megan,

I am a real fan of shaker style and happy to find this linked from your recent gift set of plans! This will create inspiration for some future projects I am sure. The LVL bench plans led me here. Thank you for those as well! Would have loved to see a top view of the finished product as part of the article. Great article and detailed plans! Keep up the great work. It is appreciated! Happiest of Holidays and best for the New Year!
