I personally like a shaker style with the storage underneath. Small shops need it. My bench is not exactly Shaker. More like cave man. 🙂 The drawers pull out from either side with alum. angle for runners and a piece of slick strip to decrease wear on the ash drawers. The drawers , 14 I think, are through dovetails. Sorry, mine were machine cut by me. So I was wondering why you would not just use pinned through dovetails. So you won’t see them from the front anyway if you apply a drawer front. They don’t come apart. And they are faster and stronger than half blinds. Just a thought.

Glen, have you (or can one) make allowance for hold fasts to be used in the central part of the Shaker bench? Or is this something you have to do without with this kind of design? Obvious advantages are the extra storage weight from the cupboards and their contents. Also possible no dust accumulating under the bench? But has the Shaker bench have any other disadvantages?
