While we don’t yet have all the particulars nailed down for Woodworking in America 2013, we do know:
When: October 18-20, 2013
Where: Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Ky., and other venues in the Greater Cincinnati area
Why: Because it’s the Ultimate Woodworking Weekend, with 400+ of your closest woodworking friends, favorite woodworking teachers and writers, and a woodworking marketplace with as many top toolmakers as we can fit under one roof (where you’re encouraged to try everything!).
And, based on your recommendations, we’re offering a mix of shorter and longer sessions – so you’ll have more time to get in-depth knowledge on subjects that demand it – plus, plenty of time to get to the marketplace. We’re offering a wider range of topics this year, too, with sessions on finishing, furniture design (from the 17th-century to the 21st century), toolmaking, contemporary materials and approaches, carving (of several varieties), setup and use of a wide range of hand and power tools, shop storage ideas, woodworking history…and so much more.
So who’s going to teach all these sessions? We’re not quite ready to release the full instructor list, but I’m delighted to welcome back the two fellows in whose reflected glory I’m basking above: Roy Underhill and Peter Follansbee. Plus, Christopher Schwarz, Mary May, Don Williams and the Popular Woodworking editors (Bob Lang, Glen Huey, Steve Shanesy and me). Plus, we’re delighted to introduce some new names to the Woodworking in America lineup, including chairmaker and toolmaker Peter Galbert (along with several other folks we’ll announce in the coming weeks).
One more thing about which we’re excited: We’re bringing back the Keynote Dinner – a chance for everyone to gather in the same room and break bread (I assume there will be bread) with a great many like-minded people; more details on that to come.
The conference web site (woodworkinginamerica.com) will be updated shortly to reflect the 2013 event, and we hope to start accepting reservations in just a few weeks (I don’t yet know the rates, but they should be on par with our previous events). So mark your calendars – I hope to see you all in October.
