A hearty congratulations goes out to James McGlothlin of Willow City, Texas, for winning our JET Lathe Sweepstakes – he’s taking home the JET 1221VS variable-speed lathe.
McGlothlin is a retired Baptist pastor who now spends a good deal of his time woodworking. He starting making wooden toys when his children were small, but has since bitten into a few larger furniture projects now that he has the time – he enjoys working with the locally native Texas mesquite. (The picture at left shows him with a mesquite table and Lazy Susan he made.) He tells us that his current lathe is not variable speed, a feature he has long desired, and that he’s looking forward to growing his skills with the new one.
We’re very excited that the lathe is going to a good home, but I have admit the staff here at the magazine has been upstaged. It turns out that just before he received our congratulatory email, he became a grandfather for the first time to a beautiful baby boy! Quite the memorable week… We can only imagine that the young lad will grow up in his grandpa’s shop learning to build furniture and turn wood.
Congratulations again, James!
Here are some supplies and tools we find essential in our everyday work around the shop. We may receive a commission from sales referred by our links; however, we have carefully selected these products for their usefulness and quality.
congratulations Jim.
