This morning the crew from Popular Woodworking Magazine showed up to shoot photos of my recently built aumbry for an upcoming issue.

While I’m always happy to shoot my own photographs, if they offer to send photographer Al Parrish, I roll over immediately. He is one of the finest photographers I’ve ever worked with. I also immediately purchase pastries – Al travels on his stomach.

They started by shooting the aumbry in my workshop and then moved it to our dining room for a second set-up.

It has been years since I had a crew take over the house; it was a regular occurrence when I was on the staff of the magazine. As a result, the hardwood floors under the rugs hadn’t been swept since I stepped down as editor in 2011. Oh, and they found four cat toys, too.

Amazingly, the team was in and out in only three hours. Thanks to Al, Editor Megan Fitzpatrick, Senior Art Director Dan Pessell, and Senior Managing Editor Michael Wallace for the quick work.

By the way, you left some of your cheese pocket here.

Now the aumbry is sitting in front of the fireplace, awaiting its final destination.
