The second episode of “The Highland Woodworker” web TV show is out and if you haven’t seen this new show yet, it’s definitely worth a look. Produced in conjunction with Highland Hardware in Atlanta, the show provides great woodworking advice and visits with some of the best woodworkers out there. (The first episode included a visit with Roy Underhill, who’s always entertaining and full of good information, and the second episode is just as strong.)

Popular Woodworking Magazine is pleased to help sponsor The Highland Woodworker and provide short Quick Tip sections in each show. In this episode I walk through the process of pegging mortise-and-tenon joints – an easy process that not only strengthens the joinery but also adds a nice decorative effect.

Aside from my segment, this episode gives you a peek inside the shop of Asheville, N.C., chairmaker Brian Boggs, and talks to toolmaker Ron Brese about the evolution of Brese Planes. If you can watch either of these guys work and see the things they create without being inspired toward your workshop, then you’ve picked the wrong hobby.

The show’s host, Charles Brock, who you may know from his Maloof-style rocker and chair drawings, books and videos, walks through Foredom’s must-have power-carving tools (I’ve wanted but put off buying one of these for years, but watching Chuck carve sections of his Maloof-style chairs might be the final push I need). It’s a great show – entertaining, informative and very well produced; I and Popular Woodworking Magazine are proud to be part of it.
