I often joke that I will someday make my fortune by writing a birdhouse book – typically the best-selling woodworking books (by far).
And many readers have asked (jokingly) why I didn’t include a campaign birdhouse in my latest book on campaign-style furniture.
So it was amusing when woodworker Ric Archibald showed up with a campaign birdhouse he had made that collapses like a typical campaign bookcase. The bookcase uses 24 butt hinges that are all mortised into the case. And the screws are clocked. Amazing.
This is probably not an ideal birdhouse for birds. Unless you like crushing them.

Looks like it needs eight hinges in the interior, too.
All it needs is a tiny carrying strap and you have a mobile home. A little rough on the family though.
Makes sense. If the Roman armies and British colonists brought ‘creature comforts’ like campaign-style Furniture, then why not actual creatures such as when they migrate? I suggest redoing this in 1/8″ balsa.
A long turn-knob on each side would probably keep it upright…
