The Purrfect Bookshelves

FavoriteLoadingAdd to favorites

Those of you who’ve been reading our Editors’ Blog for more than a week or so know that I like cats (3.75 of ‘em in my house). And books (thousands). So, when a Facebook friend posted this video on my “wall,” I immediately went in search of more information. This may well be the most purrfect bookshelf unit ever designed.

Corentin Dombrecht, of Belgium, designed this birch plywood unit, which debuted at the Stockholm Furniture Fair last month and has since been making the rounds of Europe’s design shows (and design blogs worldwide). The shelving is constructed from three basic modular units, which allows it to be configured in a number of setups, plus there are two “top shelf” units available each with a built-in cat basket – one for large cats and one for small. To ensure pets don’t slip on the staircase, the plywood is unfinished.

According to Dombrecht’s web site, the “Cat-Library” will soon be available in two versions: Deluxe (comes assembled) and Kit (self-assembly). He expects both to to be available in May. In the meantime, I’ll just keep watching the video – very cool.

  1. I once had a friend who had a cat with no legs! When I asked him what the cats name was, he said it didn’t matter because if you called him he wasn’t coming anyway!

    • Why thank you Wilbur! I had to have a leg removed from one of the outdoor cats after he got in a fight with an opossum, and the wound festered before I found him. So now he’s a three-legged indoor cat, named Possum. I’ve always said I couldn’t have 4 cats ’cause would make me a crazy cat person…and I don’t – I’m one leg short of insane.
