People have different priorities. That looks to me like a pretty small benefit at pretty high cost.
That’s why you need more than one bench! Mine has storage below BUT my drawers are accessible from BOTH sides. So if I were to encounter a situation like the one above, I just have to remove the right drawer. So nya!
