pwm_ExAwards_180pWe know our readers do great work – and we’re giving you the chance to show it off to the world, with the inaugural Popular Woodworking Magazine Excellence Awards. Winners in each of five categories, a grand-prize winner, and a Readers’ Choice winner will be published in a feature article in the November 2013 issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine.

You can enter up to five pieces; the categories are: Casework, Cabinets & Bookcases; Seating; Tables; Boxes & Smalls (e.g. beautiful tools); Turnings, Carvings & Objet d’Art (by which we mean something that doesn’t seem to fit elsewhere – could be an art piece that hangs on the wall, a sculpture…). The entry deadline is June 25. Note that you can submit already completed work for consideration; we’re not expecting you to build a Roentgen-style cabinet in a couple months. (But if you can, well, we should talk.)

The PWM editors will select a grand-prize winner, plus a winner in each category. And, we’ll post entries online after the entry period closes – your votes will determine the Readers’ Favorite.

All winners will be featured in the November issue (plus receive a gift certificate to ShopWoodworking.com). The grand-prize winner will also get an all-expenses paid trip to Woodworking in America 2014 (up to $1,500 value).

Winners will be announced at the 2013 Woodworking in America Banquet (need not be present to win), and on the blog shortly thereafter. (And of course, in the November issue of the magazine.)

For complete rules and the online entry form, visit the Popular Woodworking Magazine Excellence Awards page.

While I tried to anticipate all questions on the page linked above, well, I no doubt forgot something – so send me an email if you’ve any questions.

And please send your work for consideration. Sometimes it’s OK to show off.

    Megan,
    PWM 2013 Excellence Award:

I’ve tried several times to submit a table project of 4 jpeg images with each image around the 500 to 600 kb size; each time I hit submit it deletes an image attachment from the online form. And every successive time submit is hit another image is deleted until all 4 images are gone. Then I get a Validation error message stating to “fill in the required fields” that were just deleted.

All personal infromation fields have been completed in full.

Can I email my entries directly to you?

    Thank You

    Kelly

This is wonderful Megan! I really look forward to this issue to see the work of the readers. I hope you will clarify the rules for benriddering above. I know there are some people who do the woodworking, but have their pieces professionally finished.

    Keep up the good work!

I think my project got submitted. It took a long time after I pressed “submit” so I hope it was actually submitted. Do you send an email to confirm that you receive a submission?

I build furniture/cabinetry from reclaimed materials ( http://www.benriddering.com ) and would like to submit a few pieces. Here is my question: Sometimes I hire a painter to do my finishes, and other times I will hire someone to make parts and pieces of my project–does the piece submitted need to be 100% my work (including the finish?)?

Project 1 submitted… 🙂 Hopefully two more to follow!

So where can I fit in one of my hand made dollhouses? See if you can find me a spot. Thanks.

I would like to extend an offer of one of the Titanium Birdcage saws to the winner.
