The Entry Deadline has passed – all entries will be on our web site for Reader Choice voting by Sunday, June 30.
In the November 2013 issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine, we’re celebrating the woodworking excellence of you, our readers, with the inaugural Popular Woodworking Magazine Excellence Awards and a feature article in the magazine on the winning entires.
You can enter your work for consideration in five categories: Casework, Cabinets & Bookcases; Seating; Tables; Boxes & Smalls; Turnings, Carvings & Objet d’Art.
The judges will choose a winner in each of the five categories and a Grand Prize winner – and you’ll choose the Readers’ Favorite winner by online voting.
The Grand-Prize Winner receives an all-expenses paid trip to Woodworking in America 2014 (up to a $1,500 value) plus a featured page on his or her project in the November 2013 issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine and a $100 gift certificate to ShopWoodworking.com. The winners in each of the five categories and the Readers’ Favorite winner will also be featured in the November 2013 issue of the magazine and receive $100 gift certificates to ShopWoodworking.com.
All winners will be announced at the Woodworking in America 2013 Banquet (need not be present to win). The grand-prize winner and category winners will be selected by the editors and contributing editors to Popular Woodworking Magazine. For the Readers’ Favorite selection, entries will be vetted by the editors, then uploaded to our PWM Excellence Awards Online Gallery on or before June 30 for reader voting, which will remain open until 11:59 p.m. July 7, 2013. (Viewers may vote five times each day until the voting window is closed.)
We invite you to submit your best work in one (or more) of the following:*
|Casework, Cabinets &|
|Boxes & Smalls||Turnings, Carvings|
& Objet d’Art
* PWM reserves the right to re-categorize entries as appropriate
The competition is open to all woodworkers, both amateur and professional.
All entries must have been built in the last five years and may not have been featured in any other mass-market woodworking publications or associated web sites.
No entry fee is required to submit projects for consideration. Costs for preparing and submitting the entry are the responsibility of the entrant.
Up to five (5) projects may be entered by one entrant. Each project entry requires a separate completed entry form.
Submit up to four digital photos of each project, including at least two overall “beauty” shots taken from different angles, that are suitable for publication (.jpegs of at least 300 dpi at 5×7). Note that the size limit for each attached photo is 1MB. (Exceeding this limit may cause the form to lock up – if that happens simply refresh the page.) For best results, photograph your projects against a neutral background (a light-colored sheet or a plain, painted wall, for example) with adequate lighting. While furniture pieces may be “propped” appropriately, do not clutter the shot – the goal is to show off your work in its best light. In addition to overall shots, you may wish to provide a detail shot of areas that best represent your woodworking skill and design. Note that if you cannot supply digital images (preferred), professional slides are acceptable; download the PDF entry form at the bottom of this page, fill it out, and mail it along with your slides to Megan Fitzpatrick, c/o Popular Woodworking, Suite 100, 8469 Blue Ash Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236.
The deadline for entries is June 25, 2013. Judging will take place on or around July 1, 2013, with the Readers’ Favorite determined by number of votes on July 8.
