Build a Danish Modern Storage Cabinet

What comes to mind when you think of a stereotypical male in their mid-twenties? Someone who has a beard, a few tattoos and loves to collect vinyl? Well yeah, that’s me, and I’m not afraid to call myself out. Something that may set me apart from others my age is my appreciation for well-constructed furniture. So when I found out Dale Barnard was creating a storage cabinet designed to hold a vinyl collection, I quickly volunteered to go shoot a video of the project.

I haven’t seen Dale in about a year, but luckily not much has changed. His shop was just the way I remembered it, from the pleasant southeastern Indiana weather, down to Buster (his dog) greeting me every morning.

Since Dale is a natural instructor, I knew I would be learning something new everyday. He leaves the cabinet design open to you, giving you the option of adding a door to the bottom compartment. The different size shelves and dividers are perfect for displaying albums, books and even your record player or TV.

While filming this build I was also able to pick up some basic turning techniques, a handy jointer trick for making panel glue-up joints tight and how to apply veneer without a press. It’s a great step-by-step education on case construction and the final result is a cabinet of simple and functional design.
