Fold-away work horse diagramHere are some useful sawhorses for woodworkers like me, who have limited room to work, and even less room dedicated to storage. I cannot claim design rights for these because I got the general configuration from a workman who came to my house several years ago to install a water purifier. His were made using 1 x 4 material, over which he placed a piece of plywood to make a temporary work table. Fold-awat work horse diagram 2They seemed strong even in that thin material, so I decided to build mine using 2 x 4s, which suited my needs more adequately. Certainly they can be configured to suit other, more particular, requirements. I don’t know what the weight capacity of these sawhorses is, but I have used them for several years now for all sorts of purposes. In fact, two adults have stood atop the horses without incident with 2 x 8s laid over them to make a platform.

Great sturdy sawhorses. I built a pair out of 2×4’s and had a couple of issues concerning the use I had for them. One, they are heavy…very heavy. Secondly, I found myself cutting into the barrel of the hinge with my saw. Thirdly, there is no replaceable top when you cut-up the top of the horses from continued use. Next time I will use smaller dimensional lumber and look for a way to hinge the tops to where the hinges are not exposed to the saw blade.
