My son-in-law is a Duke Blue Devil basket ball fan so I created this checker set for him.  Half the pieces are painted blue and half are white.  When you make it across you replace the checker piece with the devil piece to represent a king.  The board is made of walnut and popular for contrasting color.  The corners are mach dovetail miter joints made o a scroll saw. There is a felt lined drawer to store the pieces when not in use.  I finished it with 2 coats of tung oil.
