I’m in the midst of pulling together all the many blog posts and articles we’ve written on saws and sawing in the last 12 years (look for the book “Handsaw Essentials” sometime in October) so I’m spending a lot of time in our archives, wherein I keep running across old and forgotten photos…that I think must have been taken on days we were drinking. I can’t remember – which is a pretty good indication that in fact we were. Or perhaps I’m just getting old.
We used to have a cardboard cutout of Bob Vila, and I do remember Christopher Schwarz stashing him in one of the women’s restroom stalls during a Lie-Nielsen show – because I walked in, opened the stall door and screamed. That sort of thing sticks with a person.
I don’t know what happened to Vila in the move to our new office and shop; I’ve not seen him in years. But now, thanks to my travels into our past, I’ll always have the August 2009 cover shoot by which to remember him. The actual cover, with Glen D. Huey’s Pennsylvania blanket chests, is above.
Here are some supplies and tools we find essential in our everyday work around the shop. We may receive a commission from sales referred by our links; however, we have carefully selected these products for their usefulness and quality.
