Book Giveaway: Denning on Cabinet-making

Denning on Cabinet-making

Thanks for all the great comments! Congratulations to “Jeffreyi,” the winner of this book giveaway. Stay tuned for more exciting book giveaways and if you’re interested in a copy of “The Art and Craft of Cabinet-making” it is currently available at

After a brief lapse in book giveaways due to a bit of travel, I’m back at it again. This week I’m giving away a copy of “The Art and Craft of Cabinet-making” by David Denning. It’s a high-quality binding of a classic woodworking text that belongs in every woodworker’s collection.

You’ll find insight into wood selection, glue prep, tools and appliances, joinery, decorative details, hardware and much more (just check out the table of contents below). In short, its a fundamental woodworking book that remains relevant to this day. Christopher Schwarz called it “one of the many books that form my core library.” Despite the fact that book was written in the late 1800s, the author’s approach is a no-nonsense one. So, while you get a peek into traditional practices you also get plenty of solid instruction and advice based on timeless cabinet-making and furniture-building basics.

Here’s your chance at a free copy: Simply post a comment and I’ll select one winner at random. But keep in mind this printing is limited, so make sure you get your hands on a copy before they’re gone. Good luck!

Waited like a kid at Christmas to see if I won this. Then, Jeffreyi did (congrats!) Promptly placed an order for one of my own!

Can’t wait to read this! I plan on ordering it as soon as I am back in the US.

I have already bought this beautiful book, it is so well done and I’m enjoying the read. If I win this I’ll be shipping it to my son in law that is one year into a new furniture building business.

I’m currently finishing a vanity. It is a test case to see if I can make kitchen cabinets for our remodel. Wife is judge. I’m nervous, need all the help I can get.

I’d love a chance to read that. Then I put the books on the M-HW club
shelf for others in the group. I can always refer to it myself there also.

I am new to woodworking and building a library of good resources, this would be very helpful!

I pray thee give it me.
I know a bank whereon the wild thyme blows,
    Where ox-lips and the nodding violet grows;
    Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses, and with eglantine.

I’m about to build two built ins for my wife…this book could prove very handy!

This would look great next to my copy of Wearing’s the essential woodworker and other hand tool volumes–I can certainly use all the help I can get and Denning, Wearing. et al. are the masters!

First time poster, I would love to add this to my collection.
    Thank you for your consideration.

Looks great. Would love to read it and have it for a reference.. (Kudos to Megan for getting this printed in such a nice format.)

If it’s part of the Schwarz’s core library, then it ought to be a winner. Here’s hoping I am, too.

Sometimes, the old ways are the best ways to do something. Woodworking is always an excellent example.

Yes please! Of course, if I don’t win, I’ll probably be ordering this one anyway! Please put me on the list.

Wow, i love woodworking (do not get to do as much as I’d like), and I collect classic books. This would be uber cool.
