The style of chair that I will hopefully replace mine with.

A few months ago I was tired of running into my kitchen table while sneaking through my house to get a midnight snack. I’m not entirely sure why I chose to be sneaky considering the only other living creature in my house was the dog snoozing on the couch.

So, in a rash of rage from yet another stubbed toe, I decided to move the table and chairs to the other side of my dining room. The table moved without a hitch, but when I slid the last chair over the ancient shaggy carpet, one of the legs broke.

Like many of the Popular Woodworking readers, a lot of my furniture is temporary until I have the time (and lumber) to build something that will last. Im not emotionally attached to this dining set, but it is functional so it’s lasted longer than I would’ve liked.

When the chair leg broke, like any other woodworker, I threw it on the table to examine it. It was made of pine and the break was clean.

“I can fix this, just a little glue and some clamps and it will be as good as new,” I told the dog.

He didn’t believe me.

So I sat the chair in the corner of my house with all of the best intentions to fix it. It still sits there, months later, broken leg hanging free.

I am just going to claim that I have been waiting all of this time for our April eMag on simple seating to come out. I can use the simple side chair design in this eMag and finally start to replace some of my big box furniture.

The April Popular Woodworking eMag is “Simple Seating.” This eMag covers everything from a simple side chair to an I Can Do That storage bench that you can build with some plywood and pocket screws.

With articles from Christopher Schwarz, Drew Depenning and Glen Huey, this eMag can keep you loaded with summer projects and give you a place to sit and rest when you are finished.
