Woodworking in America – Hotel Discounts and Feast Details
Registration for Woodworking in America 2010 (Oct. 1-3, 2010, in Greater Cincinnati) will soon be open (we’ll let you know as soon as we know). In the meantime, here are a couple updates to help you plan.
First, we have contracts with three hotels near the WIA conference center in Covington, Ky., to get you a special room rate: the Cincinnati Marriott at RiverCenter is adjacent to the conference center ($139 per night instead of the hotel’s published $239 rate), Courtyard by Marriott Cincinnati/Covington is three blocks from the conference center ($114 vs. $159) and Holiday Inn Riverfront, also three blocks from the conference center ($89 vs. $107). We’ve also pinned down most of the details for Saturday evening’s optional event, “The Feast AndrÃ?Â© Roubo.” Don Williams and a team of scholars are in the midst of translating A.J. Roubo’s 18th-century masterwork “L’Art du Menuisier.” Williams will present , for the first time in public , some of the very cool things he’s learned about early workshop practice during this project. (And if you saw Williams at the WIA design conference last year, you know he’s an amazing speaker.) Also, Roy Underhill , who reads Roubo in the original French , will share some of the fascinating details he has unearthed about the man. This event will be held in a private room at an Irish pub and restaurant called Molly Malone’s (easily within walking distance of the conference center). The restaurant will provide dinner…and here’s the detail we’re still working on: They may serve buffet style, or you may have to choose your meal ahead of time (we’ll provide a menu). There will also be a cash bar.
The price: “The Feast of AndrÃ?Â© Roubo” will be $35 (which includes your dinner and covers our costs for renting the room and audio-visual equipment). You’ll be able to register for this optional event when you register for the conference. Be warned: There are only 80 spaces available for the dinner. It’s first-come, first Frenched (with a side of Irish stew).
