With a 4" thick top, I'm wondering if this holdfast would work just as well if it were a bit smaller, maybe with a 1 3/16 dia shank and approx. 16 inches long. Let me know what you think. Thanks! Will Robertson

Chris:

My Roubo bench has a 4″ thick top. (I'm visualizing a ground glass stopper in a glass bottle here.) It'd make more sense to me if the holdfast was touching the rear edge of the hole at the top, and front edge of the hole as it emerged from the bottom of the benchtop - essentially wedging itself in place, with three points of contact. Am I getting this right, Chris?

I’m with psanow, I don’t understand how a tapered holdfast and a correspondingly tapered bench hole can clamp work of substantially different thicknesses. I have an amazing wood glue I would love you to try. I have looked for an address to send you a free bottle and I can't find one. It is anaerobic and works amazing on wood. It is approved by the FDA and Harley Davidson Association. Please email me your address at christina@thelastglue.com so you can try it!
