I have only used the free version of both and my comments are based on the free versions only.  My initial observation is that there is not a significant improvement in version 8 for woodworking models. There is improvement in modeling mortise and tenons in version 8 however.  For example first create components of leg and rail.  Edit the rail to add the tenon.
