Extra No. 47 Bit Gauge — Sold!

Update: Thanks very much to those of you who placed a bid (and especially to rwyoung, who has the winning bid) and to those of you who posted entertaining comments. To those of you we offended, my apologies — and I should point out that it was my idea, not my boss’s.

Also, it turns out my “new old stock” still-on-the-original hangtag useful bit gauge is worth $1 more than Chris’s nasty, oily, falling-apart useless “woobie.” I’ll take it! — Megan

Remember my blog entry about the Stanley No. 47 bit gauge? It is, hands down, the best depth gauge for auger bits.

I purchased one for $17.50 years ago. After I blogged about it, well, you know the rest. The price went up.

Recently Megan Fitzpatrick purchased one, and through a series of wacky misadventures, she ended up with two No, 47s. Though Megan loves boring, she does not need two bit gauges.

But she does need a new sink for her kitchen.

And so we are selling this one – it’s unused and in the original packaging – here on the blog. And because we want to add real content – not just sell you something – we had Megan pose with the item, as shown above.

Here’s how this works. Bidding starts at $1. If you want the item, enter your bid in the comments below. The highest bid at noon EST on Friday, April 29, 2011, wins the item.

Managing editor not included.
